Natural Cures: Stinging nettle supplement (neddle) as a cure for prostrate dysfunction and enlarged prostates
Over half of
40-59 year-old men have enlarged prostates (swolen prostrates), and,
although most will not develop
clinically significant disease, one fourth of 50-year olds have some
cancerous
cells in their prostate.
Stinging nettle (neddle) supplelment for
prostrate health is a
traditional herbal folk remedy for many ailments, including prostate disorders.
Clinical studies indicate that the herb (marketed as Bazoton in Europe) also can relieve BPH symptoms. Test
tube studies suggest the leaf has anti-inflammatory actions. This is
thought to be caused by nettle preventing the body from making
inflammatory chemicals known as prostaglandins Nettle’s root
affects hormones and proteins that carry sex hormones (such as
testosterone or estrogen) in the human body. This may explain why it
helps BPH, enlarged prostate (prostrate). Some limited clinical
trials suggest benefit of stinging nettle root extract for men with
milder forms of BPH. However, it is used alone less often than Saw Palmetto (pametto) or pygeum.
